With the by-election imminent in Handside, residents have the choice on Thursday 14th December on who to chose to represent them.
Why are we having an election so close to Christmas?
Good question. It's because the current Liberal Democrat candidate is standing down.
But wait, isn't there an election in May?
Yup. There is, and whoever you elect on Thursday 14th December will have to stand for re-election. It's a wasteful election that's costing us all money.
I currently work in mental health nationally and have previously worked for the County Council and Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust. I’m active in our community and gearing up to run the London Marathon for Mind. I live here in Handside and, like you, I am proud to call it my home. However, I’m tired of watching the Lib Dems sit idly whilst the Tory council enact policies that cause harm to our community.
It’s outrageous that the Cabinet thinks they can cut our services while increasing their own pay. They ignore our concerns, taking your support for granted and it cannot continue. I promise to be the voice that Handside needs, holding the Conservatives to account, and to challenge them every step of the way.
I will listen to you
On day one I will return the cancelled surgeries to Handside and make sure these work for you
I will fight for better services
And resist the unfair and damaging cuts to our public services
I will stand up for safer communities
By working with local services and PCSO’s to raise your issues and make our streets safe
I will be an independent voice
Unlike the Tories you can trust me to always vote in the interest of Handside not simply with the party line

We're calling on Hertfordshire County Council to listen to residents and fix the verges. All across Welwyn Hatfield we're plagued by verges that are in ruin, left to deteriorate by the County Council. It's ridiculous that they make residents wait 2 weeks for a response before being told that it's not a priority and nothing will be done.
It's time Herts County Council listened to you, and to us. Together we can make them listen - we've put up with it long enough. Sign and share this petition.
That's right. It's only been 7 days since Philip Hammond unleashed his haphazard and unfair budget. 7 days since Theresa May's Conservative government announced that it planned to scrap it's manifesto promise of not increasing National Insurance.
Speaking to the Welwyn Hatfield Times, Cllr Kieran Thorpe told the paper "This shambolic U-turn demonstrates the new Chancellor is no less clumsy than the last. “Spreadsheet Phil” as he is known certainly has failed to excel with this budget.
This Tory government is no different from the last, just as ham-fisted with policy announcements, just as damaging to the livelihoods of ordinary working people.”
Councillor Kieran Thorpe, Leader of the Labour Group and Opposition shares his initial thoughts on this unfair Conservative budget.
