Local Elections 2021

Supporting our Communities.

We’re proud that our party is made up of local people who care about our town. We support community facilities like Friendship House when we see them threatened by the Conservatives and we come together to say no to overnight closures at the QE2 Hospital in Welwyn Garden City. Our members lead community support groups, serve in foodbanks, and work in the fantastic NHS vaccination programme.

Vote Labour on Thursday 6 May 2021

This election if your chance to choose a positive plan for Welwyn Hatfield’s future.

Labour will keep your council tax low while protecting key services, much like the Labour-led Council have done in Stevenage.

We’ll stand up for Health and Care workers. Labour Councillors voted for a proper pay increase for those who have been there for us during the pandemic while the Conservatives were proposing NHS pay cuts. Only Labour will bring in free parking for nurses and health workers while fighting cuts at the local QE2 Urgent Care Centre.

Labour is fighting to save vital community services like “Friendship House” in Hatfield as the Conservatives block it from being used while they work out how to pocket as much money and profit from the site as possible.

For too long greed, waste and dodgy deals have come before local people and local needs.

You can stop this right now. Vote Labour and help us put you first.

Our Pledges

*Labour Stevenage Band D Council Tax = £1904.20
Conservative Welwyn Hatfield Band D Council Tax = £1970.47

"In Hatfield Labour has always been on the side of residents... and now I’m asking for your support to continue the fight against the wider neglect of our Town" Maureen Cook, Labour Candidate – Borough Council

Maureen Cook
Labour Candidate – Borough Council

Hello, I’m Maureen. I’ve lived here with my family since 1979 – I’m proud to call this place home, and like you I know things could be better.

I’m proud to have been a Councillor for Hatfield Central since 1992 and it’s been a privilege to continue to work hard for all residents and to support my local community. I’ve seen first hand how the Tories have prioritised themselves instead of Hatfield and it cannot be allowed to continue.

In Hatfield, Labour has always been on the side of residents. Together we stopped them from turning Hatfield into the dustbin of Hertfordshire, and now I’m asking for your support to continue the fight against the wider neglect of our Town.

It’s been such a difficult year for everyone, and the community has really pulled together – if you re-elect me on Thursday 6 May that’s the spirit I’ll be taking into the Council chamber.

I always welcome hearing from residents and am available to all by phone, email and usually at my “Meet Your Councillor” session on the first Saturday of every month at The Hub, White Lion House, Hatfield Town Centre, from 10am to 10.45 am – although we’ve had to do things differently this year because of the coronavirus.

Labour Candidate – Hatfield Town Council

My home has been in Lockley Crescent since 2009 and I believe in putting my efforts into the community I live in.

I’m rooted in this community and have vast amounts of life and management experience to put behind my work. I’m a qualified Life Coach and Trainer and regularly invest my time and expertise in helping people deal with day to day issues as well as extreme difficulties.

To me, we are all equal as human beings and everyone deserves a chance.

I’ve lived and worked in many countries and recognise and celebrate diverse cultures – a great ongoing education for me. Having spent some time at the Hatfield Citizens Advice Bureau I’m aware of some of the needs of this community but there is nothing better than to be amongst our town’s people at various events and to speak with you directly.

My faith is in our ability to make this community a strong and resilient one that flourishes in being there for each other. The Labour Party and I will be there for you.

Vote for me on May 6th, 2021!

"I'm proud to be the Mayor of Hatfield and to stand up for residents in our town. I've been fighting for Hatfield on the County Council where I stood with you to defend Ellenbrook fields, and community assets like Friendship House" Margaret Eames Petersen, Labour Candidate – Borough Council

Labour Candidate – County Council

Margaret moved to Hatfield to become a lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire in 1993. She helped lead “Rock Solid” youth work and organised Christmas meals in Hatfield from 2010 in Howe Dell hall.

She became Head of Public Health Intelligence for Herts in 2000, leading a team and pioneering this specialism later across England. She was elected County Councillor for Hatfield North in 2017.

Margaret recently led the battle to stop the Quarry in Ellenbrook fields and continues to push the Borough to establish the promised Ellenbrook Park. She exposed the evidence of the Bromate underground and will continue to demand the right action to protect Hatfield’s water from being contaminated.

Margaret continues to be concerned at the lack of community facilities and GP practice in the newer Villages area and seeks to give the area better public services. Margaret is currently proud to be Hatfield Mayor and is a champion for Hatfield and its people.

My goal is to ensure that we are all safe online, in our homes, and on the streets. Our key priority is to focus on anti-social behaviour. I am going to appoint a new anti-social behaviour commissioner who will ensure that councils, the police, and other groups such as housing landlords must work together to solve complaints. We will be focusing on county-line drug gangs that target school-age children. We will introduce an intelligence-led policing model so that we can prevent and detect crime and go back to effective community and neighbourhood policing.

Remember, have your say on the local elections.
