Supporting our Communities.

We’re proud that our party is made up of local people who care about our town. We support community facilities like Friendship House when we see them threatened by the Conservatives and we come together to say no to overnight closures at the QE2 Hospital in Welwyn Garden City. Our members lead community support groups, serve in foodbanks, and work in the fantastic NHS vaccination programme.

This election if your chance to choose a positive plan for Welwyn Hatfield’s future.

Labour will keep your council tax low while protecting key services, much like the Labour-led Council have done in Stevenage.

We’ll stand up for Health and Care workers. Labour Councillors voted for a proper pay increase for those who have been there for us during the pandemic while the Conservatives were proposing NHS pay cuts. Only Labour will bring in free parking for nurses and health workers while fighting cuts at the local QE2 Urgent Care Centre.

Labour is fighting to save vital community services like “Friendship House” in Hatfield as the Conservatives block it from being used while they work out how to pocket as much money and profit from the site as possible.

For too long greed, waste and dodgy deals have come before local people and local needs.

Labour Candidate – Borough Council

I am a hardworking, organised motivated professional, with a passion for politics, human rights and equality, I have an outgoing and friendly personality; I enjoy meeting new people and making a real difference in people’s lives. I have lived in this beautiful City Welwyn Garden City for Twenty years with my family.

I work at the University with students, support some local charities and have previously worked for a well-established business venture at Welwyn Garden City. My wife and children works for NHS are proud to serve the community – I couldn’t be prouder of them.

If elected, you can count on me to represent you to improve the safety and quality of life in our Community. I will work with local officers to tackle issues affecting the community, such as housing, social service, schools, the environment and transport paying attention to the needs of vulnerable members of our community.

Lynn Chesterman
Labour Candidate – County Council

I’ve represented the Welwyn Garden city South Division at County Hall for the last eight years. This is important to me as I have lived in the Division with my family for the past 40 years and have experienced local schools, hospitals, doctors, housing etc first hand and experienced where Conservative cuts at all levels have hit many of us. Previously the CEO of a small, national charity working with vulnerable families I am determined that services should be more accessible and equitable.

If we haven’t met yet, then I hope that you or your family have benefitted from my highways locality budget that every councillor gets.  If your footpath, verges, pathways or roads have been repaired or you have seen SID (Speed Indicator Device) then it was through this funding. It often takes a few years to bring this work to fruition, but the Conservatives at County hall refused to accept the Labour budget to allow us to do more – despite it being properly costed.

Through my locality budget I have supported the Zion Foodbank, mental health, young people, disabled people, older residents and those with drug and alcohol problems by funding services delivered by local charities and supporting local Guide and Brownie packs to enable them to meet together via Zoom during COVID19.

I have helped many of you who have met with problems and attended school appeals panels and other meetings alongside you to make sure that your voice is heard. I am the Labour spokesperson for Public Health, Vice Chair of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee and on the Children and Young People’s panel. I hope that you will see that I work hard for all residents in the area. Please support me to serve another four years at County Hall representing you.

Philip Ross
Labour Candidate for Hertfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner

My goal is to ensure that we are all safe online, in our homes, and on the streets. Our key priority is to focus on anti-social behaviour. I am going to appoint a new anti-social behaviour commissioner who will ensure that councils, the police, and other groups such as housing landlords must work together to solve complaints. We will be focusing on county-line drug gangs that target school-age children. We will introduce an intelligence-led policing model so that we can prevent and detect crime and go back to effective community and neighbourhood policing.
