On Saturday 4 March, Members and supporters of Welwyn Hatfield Labour joined tens of thousands at the People’s Assembly Against Austerity’s #OurNHS demonstration.

In Welwyn Hatfield we’ve seen first-hand just how much Conservatives care about our NHS Services. Despite promises made by Grant Shapps, the first thing his government did while propped up by the Lib Dems was to axe the QE2’s A&E.

Under the Conservatives our local NHS services are on the brink of collapse, over-worked and starved of the funding they need to look after us.

This Government, supported wholeheartedly by your Conservative council has increased business rates that will hit our Doctors Surgeries and the new QE2 Care Centre hard, in Stevenage the Lister Hospital must find more than £800,000 extra. We need to stop this.

We know that any promises by the Conservatives to save the NHS are worthless. Grant Shapps won an election promising to save the emergency room facilities at the QE2, a promise he refused to deliver on.

A big thank you to everyone that joined us on Saturday, if a Labour Government can build a health service in real austerity then we shouldn’t let the Conservatives take it away based on ideological austerity.
